In many parts of the planet, the undisturbed development of many animal species has become critical due to climatic changes and increasing tourism. If nothing changes in the currently rapidly advancing climate change, the snow grouse living in Tyrol will also be threatened with extinction in the near future.
At the invitation of the artists Pia Grüter and Stefan Klein, the composer Manuel Durão created a requiem for a six-voice choir based on the call of the snow grouse and its living environment. The composition was performed for the first time in the fall of 2022 in the valley station of the Patscherkofelbahn near Innsbruck as part of the KÖR Tirol exhibition program of the Tiroler Künstler:innenschaft.
Instead of a physical monument in public space, a living monument was created.
A contrasting monument was created in the man-made concrete infrastructure of the mountain railroad, which intrudes into the habitat of this endangered species, which is characterized not by its materiality, but by living memory and re-enactment.
This publication includes both the complete score and functions as documentation for the work.
